Our Story

Wooded Glen Retreat and Conference Center was founded in 2002 by Phyllis and Charles Garmon as the realization of a vision to establish an inspirational and special meeting center– where groups from all walks of life could come to retreat, connect, exchange ideas, and grow together.

Above and beyond that vision, the Garmons developed Wooded Glen to be a namesake memorial for their middle son, Glen Garmon, who lost his life in 1996 at age 27.

Today, Wooded Glen is in its second generation of family ownership, and its third generation of family operation.  People from all over the world have come to Henryville, Indiana to visit Wooded Glen as meeting and conference guests.

While venues of all types promote themselves as “conference centers”, Wooded Glen’s facilities and operations meet an actual industry standard.

Since 2007, Wooded Glen has been a proud member of a world-wide hospitality industry organization, known as IACC; www.iacconline.org.  IACC members are true conference centers that meet some 30 standards of membership criteria.

IACC-approved conference centers are specialized facilities that provide the best meeting environment for smaller groups (averaging 10 to 75 people).  A conference center is focused on offering facilities and services that cater to the exacting needs of a smaller meeting environment – such as:

  • On-site lodging and dining facilities
  • Specially-designed meeting rooms
  • Comfortable meeting chairs
  • Conference tables featuring a smooth, hard writing surface
  • Audio-Visual (A-V) support
  • Continuous refreshment breaks
  • Bundled, per-person package pricing (what we call a Complete Meeting Package)
